If I give birth to twins, will the Maternity Allowance increase with the number of babies, as with the Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant?
The Maternity Allowance is intended to help offset income reductions when the insured person takes time off from work for childbirth. Thus, the amount of the benefit will not vary with the number of children born. In cases involving multiple births (twins or more newborns), the period leading up to childbirth for which the benefit is paid will be extended to 98 days (from 42 days for single births).
